Today’s meeting was a Club Assembly, giving the Directors an opportunity to update the club on their areas of responsibility.

Brian Hayes, Secretary, gave thanks for supporting him as Secretary. Adam thanked Brian for getting the meeting minutes out so quickly.

Don Stewart, Treasurer, shared our fiscal year is July through June. We have account at Wesbanco & Edward Jones totaling $120,000. The Club is exempt from income tax but is not a charitable 501 (c)(3), but the Club’s Educational Foundation IS a charitable organization which currently has $122,000 in the account for scholarships and more. Happy Bucks are now targeted for a specific charity each quarter, which resulted in more donations.

Lee Hieronymus requested we expand the Education Foundation by-laws to include purposes other than just Education. Jeff Senney said it is broad enough to give for other things but we would then need to have a committee structure for managing that. Wyatt Thorp shared that we take a 3 year investment average to see how much we can award each year. We also contribute to the scholarships from the Club’s funds.

Adam Manning shared some updates on the Club’s goals for the year:

Service projects - goal 50 Rotarians, actually had 50 alone at Pancake Day so this goal has been met and surpassed.
Social activities - goal 4, actual 4 YTD, with more scheduled.
Interact Club - 1 goal, actual 1 @ CHS
Inbound Youth exchange - 1 goal/1 actual (Marti)
Service Projects 10 goal/11 YTD with more scheduled
Membership 71 goal/ current 67, so we have an opportunity here.

Other accomplishments so far:
  • Service Projects completed have resulted in 44 hours donated this quarter
  • 25 families adopted for Adopt a Family
  • $1,000 donated for Guatemala Literacy
  • $500 donated to CHS Spirit Chain
  • 20 casseroles donated to Casseroles for Hope coordinated by LIsa Goris May
  • Several Rotarians took CPR Training at the fire department
  • Donated a generator to the Ohio Disaster Response Team
  •

Opportunities we have:
  • Membership - we can diversify and attract new members. Only 25% of the Club is women!
  • Get the word out about our fundraisers so more people participate.
  • Fill open roles within the club. If not you…who?

Crissy Allums, Community Service Director thanked the Club for support of our service project. Thanks to Jackie D’Aurora for chairing the literacy project, and Kelly McDonald for keeping the service projects going in her absence. We have completed 11 so far. We gave out 451 coats last year, and 600 this year.

Next service project is March 23, 9:30 am - 12 noon, wrapping diapers for the Diaper Depot. We have 7 volunteers, and need 15.

Looking at 3 more service projects still this year and Bill Menker is coordinating a litter pick up for a section of roadway we have adopted.

Bill Menker, International Service Director shared we have contributed
$1,000 to the Guatemala literacy, which is the largest international project in Rotary with 88 clubs participating. We are currently collecting for the Red Cross Conflict Relief.

Coming up:
Life pump project - not just funds, but can help package parts
Hero RATS - train African Giant Pouched Rats to sniff out landmines and can also detect tuberculosis.

Kelly McDonald, Vice President shared we are preparing of the 4th annual Golf Outing on May 10. The committee will start meeting weekly on Thursdays 11 am at Yankee Trace. We are looking at new and different ways to promote via social media.

Sofie Ameloot, Arnie Biondo, and Kelly form the membership committee. They are working to expand  membership categories - corporate, young membership, etc. Don’t be afraid to ask someone to check out Rotary. Sometimes just asking someone is all it takes!

We just joined Heart of Centerville that is comprised of 280 organizations. Frank Perez will be promoting the golf outing at their Friday breakfast meeting. And we will have a booth at the Americana Festival this year. Many opportunities coming up to increase awareness of Rotary.

Susan Schnell sent a report that the CHS Interact advisor will be staying on for another year. They will be recruiting students next year. There are three students who will be participating in RYLA. Early April is the deadline for scholarship applications

Next week’s program will Erik Tritsch discussing Ethics.

President Manning led the group in reciting the 4 Way Test and wished everyone a good week.
