President Frank Perez welcomed everyone to the Centerville Rotary Club and led the group in the Pledge of Allegiance. Brian Hayes shared a prayer with the group.

- Sign ups for the Leadership Celebration are on the tables. Please fill in your RSVP and meal choice for you and your guest if you are bringing someone.
- Our next Rotary Board meeting will be Monday June 21st. It will be a zoom meeting and I will send the link on Monday. All members are welcome to attend.
- Monday July 12th the Optimists will have their golf outing at Sycamore CC. We will be sponsoring a team and there are still a couple of spots available if you would like to play. Contact me for details.
Lee Hieronymus announced the Americana parade will be held on July 5th this year. The traditional Rotary 1927 fire truck will be in it and we need Rotarians and kids to ride and have fun with squirt guns. Meet at city building around 9:30 am and plan for lots of FUN. This is a Centerville Rotary tradition, so join in!

- Lee Hieronymus said he was seated by himself today and wondered why. He called out some Rotarians for not signing up for our changeover meeting. At 2 pm he gets a root canal and is not excited. He is happy they are doing hay now and is thankful for his air conditioned tractor.

- Judy Budi thanked Carol for producing the newsletter each week and recognized all the fathers in the club.
- Harvey Smith was happy for the new Sergeant of Arms this week.
- Mike Wier was upset that we have 71 members in thee club but only 21 in attendance at thee meeting today. He’s done a lot of make ups at other clubs over thee years.
- Carol Sue Galloway was happy her 17 yr old grandson came for a visit from Columbus but while here someone rear ended his new Camaro and drove off. Fortunately they weren’t hurt and the Kettering Police caught the person.
- Boyd Preston recognized Frank for his last meeting and gave thanks for great job during a difficult assignment.

- Ron Hollenbeck was happy to have a zoom meeting to plan the Malawi project. He said the pump material will arriver there Nov-Dec in time for the rainy season. The plan is to drill the boreholes in advance and protect them from the rain so hey are ready for the pumps.

- Bill Menker announced he missed last week as he was in the Alleghenies of PA for wilderness first responder and OH search & rescue training.
- Carol Kennard thanked Frank Perez for taking us through this challenging year with a positive attitude and great leadership.
- Gerry Eastabrooks was happy, and said ditto about Frank’s leadership.
- Lee Hieronymus gave again noting this was the first time he ever had fish balls.
- Frank Perez announced his nephew and wife had baby boy yesterday, noting he is really a great uncle now.
Our speaker today was Jack Park, Ohio State Football radio commentator.
Brad Huffman introduced our speaker. Jack Park, whom he had reached out to as he is among OSU greatness who is nationally recognized for his knowledge of Ohio State football. He has written a book on the leadership secrets of football and others. He is a commentator on 97.1, and has appeared on the Big 10 Network and other sports outlets. Jack was named the 2021 OSU Football Person of the Year and has given over 100 keynote addresses in 21 states.
Jack Park noted he is a CPA, received a BS at Ohio State University and graduate degree at Pitt. But his love has always been OSU football and shared many interesting statistics about the team’s 131 history.
He asked if anyone knew how many perfect seasons they have had - win every game. The answer is 6 total: 1916, 1944, 1954 ( which saved Woody Hayes’ career), 1968, 2002 (when Coach Tressel had lots of last minute wins), and 2012 (Urban Meyer’s first season)
How many near perfect seasons with only 1 game not won? Answer: 26, with 22 seasons of one loss and 4 with a single tie.
Which team is the most frequent spoiler? Michigan (6 times)
Four teams are 2 time spoilers - Illinois, Michigan State, TCU, Wisconsin.
He noted they lost 3 Rose Bowls in 1970’s that would have given them a national championship.
Woody Hayes had the team practice for Michigan one day per week, knowing they were the biggest challenge.
Vince Lombardy made last public speech in Dayton in 1977 at the Agonis club. He had a friend in Columbus who brought him to Dayton. He died 7 weeks after his Dayton appearance.
Woody Hayes last appearance was also Dayton in 1987. He also spoke at the Agonis Club and died the next morning.
Jack shared that the NFL is rooted in Ohio as it was founded in 1920 in Canton, OH at the Ralph Hay Auto showroom. No real league existed then so one Friday night they had a meeting at the showroom with 11 men who then formed the National Football League. It was $100 to become a member.
The League’s first office was in Columbus at the Hayden Building and Joe F. Carr was the first NFL President. The first first NFL championship game was in 1933 where the Bears beat the Giants. Triangle Park in Dayton was the site of the first NFL game - Columbus Panhandles played the Dayton Triangles, and Dayton won 4-0.
OSU/MI have played 116 games from 1897 - 2019, meeting for 102 consecutive years until the pandemic. Michigan leads 58-52-6. In the last 109 games the record is 52-52-5, OSU has 1,789 points and Michigan has 1,788. OSU has won the last 8 - the longes winning streak is 9 by Michigan, so if OSU wins this year they will be tied.
In 1907 Michigan left the Big 10 and because of hard feelings, Big 10 teams were told if anyone played them, they had to leave the conference. In 1913 OSU got into the Big 10 and in1918 Michigan rejoined the Big 10.
Jack noted he looks for the interesting stories, never writes anything negative and has been criticized for that.
Lee Hieronymus shared his dad, Ted played for OSU, 1925-28, and coached from 1932-37. His father told of one game when they were down at the half, the coach got them so fired up that the players broke the doors down upon returning to the field. During another game, he lost his false teeth and stopped to dig in the mud for them. The ref stopped game and both sides helped looked until they were found!
Jack noted he will be around for a bit and had copies of his book, Buckeye Reflections for sale. He shared thoughts from some great leaders:
