Arnie Biondo reminded all to sign up for Pancake Day volunteering duties.

Kelly McDonald announced 60 boxes of coats were delivered last week to Hannah’s Treasure Chest. We need a few volunteers there next Thursday, 9:15 am to help unload some pallets and to take a photo. We donated 720 coats - the most we’ve ever given. Thanks for your generosity through Happy Bucks and support of the Golf Outing. 

Sofie reminded that she needs help getting sponsorships for Pancake Day. She’s getting tired of doing this job by herself! 

The Fundraising committee is meeting today and the Pancake Committee will meet next week, 11 am on Thursday.

Chuck K just returned from a Viking tour through Switzerland, Germany, France, and Paris.

Ron H had a great trip to Delaware where he ate lots of crab cakes. He and Lori are celebrating their 36th anniversary!

Pat T is happy to have his daughter back from her honeymoon.

Sofie A is getting used to having an empty nest.

Adam M got to see neighbor’s 6th grader play football, got beat 55-6, but tried really hard.

Carol K is heading to Maine for a special week in the cabin where pioneer environmentalist, Rachel Carson wrote some of her books. Thanks to Boyd for taking notes for her next week. 

Boyd P just got back from 2 weeks in Maine and is glad he sat next to Carol…

Uriah A announced there will be an Art Exhibition Sept 18 at the Joyce Young Center. Art can be submitted by those 18 & over, and it is a juried show. Jim McCutcheon will be playing music and Gregory DeGroat will be creating a watercolor piece during the event.

Elda GG was happy tomorrow is Harvey’s birthday.

Harvey will celebrate his 92nd birthday tomorrow. Happy Birthday, Harvey!

Jeff S spent a weekend with his son and grandkids, then to IN, and then his son and family followed them home, so lots of time with kids/grands

Kelly M said today was his last in person club meeting. He gave thanks for last 3.5 years of support from the Centerville Club. He hopes to be back in May to play in the golf outing. Many gave Kelly thanks for all he has done for this club and wished him well.

 

 

 

Sherry said their goal is for children, teens, and adults to have support and access to services they need. Their mission is to advocate for, educate and inspire hope in individuals through compassionate empathy. 

 

Sept 20 will be an Expressions of Peace expo at the Dayton Convention Center with different styles of dancing for everyone. Proceeds will go toward furthering peace initiatives. 

 

They previously did programs on anti-bullying, then we saw the tornados, and shootings, so worked on how to bring inner peace back to families. Worked on how to heal yourself through Pathways to Peace programs.

 

This is the first year for the Expressions of Peace the event. They hope people walk away feeling peaceful. There will be gardening, dancing, art, something for everyone. Adults or kids separate or together. Expose people to these activities and then connect you with those activities throughout the year. 

 

They also provide after school enrichment programs, mental health counseling, clothing boutiques, and all funds raised go back to the community. They are a job training site, provide delp with utilities, and serve as a foodbank. They partner with WPAFB, and donate unused product to other groups to use. 

 

They have started renovating a Skill Center near the Croc Center in Dayton. Many services are missing in that neighborhood. They asked neighbors what they need. Started delivering food, provided information on where to do laundry, hairdresser, clothing. Their center will provide all of those. Full kitchen - people can have room to start a small business, but have to give back by teaching others. They are in the process of getting permits and general contract work done now, renovating the building.

 

They never had to turn anyone down. People they help come back to help others later. 

Sherry told the story of a13 year old who showed up in their parking lot. She was not very nice to be around at that time, but after working with them, she is now 26 with 3 kids and working for New Beginnings.

 

Have to have or learn a skill, and when you come back have to show you have progressed. They have 8-30 people working there each day. 

 

They try to heal the whole family. Starts with the child.

Favorite program? Everything connects so no favorite. 

 

Consignment shop - take most reasonable donations. someone donated whole house contents and gave all away in only 6 months.

 

New Beginnings has been around for 6 years. 

12 year old had bad behavior, but really shielding fact that he didn’t know how to read. 

Sherry has been doing this for over 27 years, helping kids, but then realized she should have a license.
