President Brad Thorp introduced our District Governor Bill Shula, who brought along some "Be a gift to the world" magnets stating that the next District Conference will be April 29-30, 2016. and a special banner for the club, presented to Brad and our past president Vas Appalaneni, with a special message from the Chief Development Officer for Rotary International thanking our club for its generous support of the Rotary Foundation. Shula said our club was number one in donations for the 2014 and 2015 club year and is one of the top 500 donation givers of the 35,114 clubs world-wide. He said there are 531 districts. He said next year's District Conference is going to bring in Rotoract and Interact club members as part of the program. 

 

Club member Ron Hollenbeck noted that 19 club members have signed up to participate in our next Paul Harris Fellow donation. Those members will be recognized and receive their new pins at the Dec. 17 Christmas dinner.

 

Sign up for the Dec. 17 Christmas dinner, letting the club know if you will be there and/or are bringing a guest, will be at the first Thursday meeting in December, Ron Hollenbeck said.

 

Brad had club members who hadn't already sent him their vote, vote on The Rotarian of the Year. The Rotarian of the Year will be announced at the Christmas dinner, Brad said.

 

Gerry Eastabrooks said that the Pancake Breakfast fund-raiser brought in $19,000 this year, for a total of $240,000 over the years the fund-raiser has been around.

 

Brad recognized each of the corporate sponsors who attended the meeting at the request of the club and thanked them for their generous support. Shelley Fisher read off the complete list of sponsors and thanked them again for their support. Each of the sponsors present was asked to say something about their business.

 

Those sitting at the birthday table (October and November birthdays) were recognized and at the end of the meeting everyone sang Happy Birthday to them. Brad has a special addition, letting each birthday person know a historical or celebrity person born on the same day. For Ray Merz it was Zachary Taylor, our 12th president.

 

Miamisburg Rotarian Bob Kilpatrick said the Miamisburg Pancake Breakfast has been around since 1961 and will be the first Saturday in December at Miamisburg High School. Tickets are $6, or $5 if you buy more than one.

 

 

 

Sgt.-at-Arms Erich Eggers collected Happy Bucks for Reclaiming Futures.

 

He noted that raffle tickets for the SuperBowl are $5 or 5 for $20. Brad noted that the club already has raised more than $900 from sales of the tickets. He said the tickets have to be returned to the Florida club, so the time is up for buying them.

 

Brad mentioned last week, and Patrick Beckel, who stood in for Arnie Biondo as a greeter this day, mentioned again, that club member Jeff Senney had invited a Rotary foursome to the NCR Country Club to play golf recently, and that they were thankful for his generosity.

 

 

Dave Trout said Bill Abrams plans to have a procedure done at the Cleveland Clinic and that Robin Parker, who has also not been at recent meetings, is traveling a lot and in good health. 

 

Ann Blackburn who was at this meeting said she has been asked to make more photos of the children in the Reclaiming Futures program for the holidays. 

 

Mitch Biederman said his eighth grade soccer son was recently named Players Player of the Year and will be performing at Magsig Middle School in front of college coaches on the weekend. He is a student at Cline Elementary, he said. 

 

Joyce Young said she is looking for a used girl's bike for around $75, a request from a young girl in the Adopt-a-Child Christmas project.
