Today’s visitor’s were all local authors: Antonio Garcia, Lamar Ferrell, Marisa Dillon, and Rochelle Bradley (Gina Smith).
Tony Garcia is the owner of the recently opened The Cozy Book Nook, located at 1400 East 3rd Street in Dayton. They specialize in local indie authors and are located in an 1896 building. They include books by over 120 indie authors. He is on Fox 45 once/month talking about books.
Tony just published his first book - “Sins of the Fathers”, and has also written short stories, too
Indie authors have to pay for the printing themselves, do their own advertising, etc. They do not work with a publisher. Interesting nugget: Tony met his wife at Pat’s Humidor.
He suggested, if you’re thinking about writing a book, do it. Self-publishing allows the artist to be in charge of their own work.
- Find an editor to help clean it up
- Find a graphic designer to do cover work.
Amazon makes it pretty easy to upload and publish your own book.
Indie authors have a community to help each other
Mo Dillon /Marisa Dillon said she writes historical romance novels and visited our club here once before with Channel 22/Fox 45 where she works in Marketing. She has always loved to write. She started with traditional publishing but when that publisher closed, she decided to be an indie author
She has published a 3 book series, The Ladies of Lore. And has published book 1 in a new series, The Art of Love. All books are available on Amazon
HERE.
Lamar Ferrell shared his first published work, “Dirty Big Secret”.
He grew up in Alexander, VA, and moved to this area in 1984. For 20 years, he has been the chaplain for Middletown police/fire. He is also a Pastor. The book is his story, sharing about the lowest part of his ‘brutiful’ life. Life is about relationships and community. The book will be released on
November 18 which is significant as that is the day his father died.
Our own Gina Smith (Rochelle Bradley pen name) said the question she gets asks most is, what inspires her to write? Her stories come mostly from dreams but also some from real life. She feels the world needs more laughter and love, so her books are written as “Romance with sass and shenanigans.”
Gina’s newest book is “Popping the Clutch.” It involves a female car mechanic, CarTube channel, and a dream car’s owner. Gina read part of the book, which included the mention of a Rotary Club.
Gina writes fiction and is here to help you get started if you ever want to give it a try. She has published 14 books so far, including 7 in the Fortuna, Texas series, 2 in the Dragon series, 2 in the Learning to Love Again series, 1 of 3 in the Popping the Clutch series, 2 in Fortuna Dare Society. One of her books starts in Uptown Centerville.
