President Arnie Biondo welcomed everyone to the Centerville Rotary Club for the last time as president, and led the reciting of the Pledge of Allegiance. Brian Hayes provided the prayer.

President Biondo presented Crissy Allums with a Service above Self award. Thank you, Crissy for all you do for this club!
PDG Harvey Smith then inducted two new members to the Centerville Rotary Club: Andrea Share and Jesse Campbell.

Andrea shared she has an 18-year old son, is a big believer in God, and helps people obtain mortgage loans, saying she has been helping people build wealth for 25 years. And current Rotarian, Ron Bowersocks is her step-dad!
Jesse shared he was invited by Pat Beckel to join Rotary. He has four kids, and one daughter was at the ER today as she split her chin open after jumping off a couch! He represents business development and helps people mitigate insurance claims.

President Biondo announced the Board recently decided to discontinue the red ribbon requirements for new members who have previously been Rotarians. Dan Johnson promptly removed Rand Oliver’s red ribbon.
Kelly McDonald announced the Rotary Picnic has been rescheduled to Friday, August 18. Details forthcoming.
President Biondo gave thanks to the City of Centerville and staff at Yankee Trace for taking good care of Rotary this year.
Lee Hieronymus announced the Rotary float in Americana Festival parade is always a good time. For over 20 years, we’ve had his historic fire truck in the parade, spreading visibility of Rotary, and it only caught fire once.… It is a chance for the incoming president to be in front of the community. Those who will be riding are to meet behind the City Building 9:30 am, where all will be loaded onto the truck, along with squirt guns. Lee will bring you back after the parade. Lee’s cell number is (937) 609-7662, in case you have any questions or weather is questionable. This is the most fun you’ll ever have as a Rotarian, said Lee!
Happy Bucks for this quarter go to support East Palestine Relief. Our Sergeant of Arms was Pat Beckel with help from James Stuart. Happy Bucks were given for:
- Pat Beckel announced Salar Centerville location and Agave & Rye are now open and the meals are amazing. He gave happy bucks for new member, Jesse, noting he has a volunteer’s heart, and is always the first to sign up to help.

- Carol Kennard for her birthday (29th???), and a fun trip to Gatlinburg for granddaughter Kaycee’s dance competition.
- Gina Smith for new members, and is heading to Bear Lake, MI for a couple of weeks.
- Brad Huffman for his 10th wedding anniversary on July 4, and upcoming trips to Las Vegas and Europe.
- Bill Menker for the new members and also that he will be driving the library van in the Americana parade.

- Brad Thorp announced on Friday, his son Issac & daughter-in-law Amber had a baby girl, and on Monday Wyatt and Kayla welcomed a baby boy. He and Chris are thrilled to be grandparents! Congratulations!
- Dale Berry for the upcoming events celebrating Independence Day, noting Washington Township is also a major sponsor of the Americana Festival. He is sad this is his last year riding on the float, as he is not running for re-election.
- Dick Hoback was happy to finally get rid of their grand piano, as they are moving to Bethany. After discovering that schools and churches all use keyboards now, BHA took it back (who they bought it from!)

- Lee Hieronymus gave a sad dollar, as former fire chief, Randal Staley had a massive brain bleed and is now in Hospice. He set the path for the fire service we have today, Accredited. Lee also had to buy gas and insurance for the fire truck so he’s short on money for Happy Bucks.

Our speaker this week was Dan Cleary, local photographer and author of the book Wright Brothers, Then and Now.
Dan was recently made famous by hitting a Hole in One at our golf outing! He has a Fine Arts degree, is a professional photographer, just celebrated his 40th wedding anniversary, and has two children.
Dan noted he was invited to play in our golf outing and was lucky enough to hit a Hole in One. After consulting with his wife, he elected to take cash instead of the 2-year car lease to help fund a trip to Greece next year.
Dan said the Wright Bros were also photographers, using photography to document what they were doing.
In 1903 photography was a difficult process - coated glass with a chemical, took photo, and then processed it with water. The Wright brother’s house didn’t have running water, so it is thought they processed photos in the backyard laundry facility.
Dan decided to go out to Huffman Prairie one February morning and took a few photos. He noted the landscapes haven’t changed much since Orv and Wilbur took their photos. He decided to try superimposing the Wright brothers photos over the ones he took.
Dan received an artist grant from Montgomery County Culture Works to travel and photograph places where the Wright Brothers did their demonstrations. He traveled to Paris, Kitty Hawk, Washington D.C., Greenfield Village, MI, Huffman Prairie and other Dayton locations.
Dan noted the Wright brothers were flying at 40 feet, 30 mph during their test flights. They only flew together one time in their lives. They understood the dangers, and knew if there was a fatal crash, they wanted the other brother to go on with their research
Dan first just created a photo series, but then decided to put them all in a book, along with quotes. The book was totally vetted by Wright Brothers historians.
President Biondo led the group in reciting the 4 Way Test and wished everyone a good week.
