Our speaker today was Erik Tritch who gave a presentation on Ethics and Vocational Service.
Erik Tritch has two kids, is the ED of the Fairborn Digital Academy, soccer coach of the Fairborn HS girls team, a Fairborn Rotarian, and Rotary Leadership Institute (RLI) grad.
Erik gave a glimpse into the Ethics and Vocational Service section of RLI.
Ethics and Vocational Service is the core of who Rotarians are. It is a great system of ethics, and Rotarians support their vocation and share that with the community.
The 4-Way Test started with a Pharmacist at Walgreens trying to grow the business. It was developed to show everyone what each Rotarian stands for. As we walk through the community, this is what people see in Rotarians.
Rotary Code of Conduct
Avoid behavior that reflects adversity on Rotary or other Rotarians.
Object of Rotary
Ethics in business has gray areas, but we can always relate back to the 4-way test
Rotary DEI code of conduct was adopted in 2021 - this is what Rotary International has said they want all Rotarians to follow.
Golden Rule - treat others as you would like to be treated.
Platinum Rule - treat others as they would like to be treated.
Be Supportive
People are going to be different than us and it is important to always foster a welcoming environment.
Vocational Service.
Erik suggested the Club do Vocational Talks where members share about their vocation.
Kids have limited knowledge on jobs available to them beyond their parents/and friends parents. How can we as Rotarians share what we do with others?
Rotary used to allow only one member per profession and new members had to be recommended by current members. Clubs are more welcoming to all now.
Erik asked how many have a copy of the 4-way test posted at your workplace? No one raised their hand. It is a good way to let your customers know they will be treated well and that this business won’t take advantage of them.
Thoughts on who we are and how we share it with the community.
Erik also suggested the idea of developing “A Day in the Life of a Rotarian” videos.
The next Rotary Leadership Institute starts in November. Think about attending!
