Our speaker this week was Patty McCormick with the Institute of Holistic Leadership.
Patty noted the Institute has been around for 40 years. She is also a member of Heart of Centerville.
Using holistic health includes anything that promotes health and wellness, including eating healthy and exercising,
Patty was born in Beavercreek, where here grandmother owned a grocery store called Cyphers Market. When she got ill, her grandma took her out back to collect something from the woods and make a tea. Try natural remedies first and if that didn’t work, seek medical help. She thought that was the norm for everyone.
Their goal is to take Holistic Medicine into several hospitals. They have been able to improve post opp pain/naseau. They have a 94% success rate with aroma therapy. The biggest problem is not having enough certified aroma therapy/holistic health providers.
The Institute is a state registered school - Institute of Holistic Leadership LLC and have been in Washington Township for 15 years..
They are interested in setting up in schools.
Kettering Hospital is using some of their students in the Cancer center. One of their recent graduates is an 80 year old nurse - did all her classwork on a typewriter, since she doesn’t use computers..
Their goal is more education of the public so everyone can be an educated consumer when choosing health care.
It is a non-regulated industry. Classes teach how to use holistic health options. The also do Employee Wellness programs, including serving healthy brownies - made with beans & spinach.
The website
pubmed.com gives examples of what you can do to improve your health through holistic methods. Lavender oil helps sleep problems without the side effects of drugs.
Patty warned to make sure you’re getting a pure oil. She also recommended taking D3 this time of year keep from having respiratory problems.
The Blue Zones - studied cultures of places in the world where people live to over 100 to learn about their health habits.
They are having a Holistic Health Education Forum on Sat, Nov 1. See the flyer below.
