President Brad Thorp opened the Centerville Rotary Club meeting at The Clubhouse at Yankee Trace by leading the Pledge of Allegiance to the Flag. Harvey Smith gave the prayer, and Brad led the singing of God Bless America. Harvey noted in his prayer that member Boyd Preston is in the hospital undergoing heart surgery, with two by-passes and a valve replacement, and that the hope is that God will see him through this with a good outcome.

Our speaker for the day, Greg Birkemeyer, assistant governor for Ohio Rotary District 6670; Jeanne Shipe, visiting Rotarian from Allentown-West Rotary, Western Lehigh County, PA; Brian K. Hayes, a prospective member; and Kristen Marks, of the Centerville-Washington Park District, program manager, a guest of member Arnie Biondi.

ANNOUNCEMENTS:
Ron Hollenbeck placed sign-up sheets for the March 19 service day for the club, noting there are seven different options for that day. He also brought samples of the yellow Rotary T-shirts that club members will wear that day, so members could check what size they need. The sizes run from small, medium, large, xlarge, xxlarge, to xxxlarge.
The $10 fee for the shirt will be put on your next pay invoice.
You can bring a family member to help on that day. The House of Bread, Hannah's Treasure Chest, Project Read, St. Vincent de Paul, and the Kennard Nature Nook, are among the options.
President Brad Thorp said Peachy was under the weather so would not be at the meeting to instruct us on how to navigate the Rotary International Web site.
Our speaker reminded everyone of the April 29/30 District Conference to be held at the Mason-Deerfield Marriott. It is $129. Info from the District has been sent in the mail.
Sunday update on our illustrious Boyd Preston. Harvey Smith said Deborah, Boyd's wife, said he is not allowed yet to have visitors, but has been sitting up in a chair in the Intensive Care Unit. He is doing very well and his doctors are pleased with the progress, though he still is in some pain, Harvey said. They hope to move him from Intensive Care tonight, he said. He is in Kettering Hospital, having had two heart by-passes and a valve replacement. Hope to see you soon, Boyd. Fred and Jack and the rest of the crew won't have any one to pick on without you. Unless it's Lee, of course.
Happy Bucks:
Sgt.-at-Arms Erich Eggers collected Happy Bucks for St. Vincent de Paul.
A number of people gave Happy Bucks for St. Vincent de Paul,and/or Boyd Bucks to hope our Boisterous Boyd is soon back on his feet. A few also gave Boyd Does (dough).
Brian K. Hayes said his daughter made the French Honor Society at Centerville High School.
Mitch Biederman said he will be heading to Florida to watch his son play in a soccer tournament.
John Beals said his grandson is going to be taking up crew in Hilton Head, where he is a freshman in high school.
Kim Senft-Paras said she was away in Philadelphia to visit family.
Butch Spencer said he is going to Maui and Oahu for a spell.
Ed Flohre said the young lady from WSU who came to Rotary last week was so impressed with the club and its work that she plans to look up Rotaract to see about joining it.
President Brad gave three dollars, one for Boyd, one for St. Vincent de Paul, and one for the safety of his son who is being sent to Amman, Jordan, for the government.
Don Gerhardt gave us an update on his daughter and wife. His daughter has gone through radiation and chemo treatments and they are hoping she's cancer free; his wife, who has a burning sensation in her mouth, fell and was in the hospital the same time as his daughter, and he was in his car when someone ran into him. Fortunately he did not have to go to the hospital, he said. Here's to better days for Don and his family.
SPEAKER: Assistant District 6670 Governor Greg Birkemeyer
Mr. Birkemeyer, who hails from the Dayton Rotary, said he wanted to mention five upcoming Rotary events that he recommends members attend. The first is the RLI, Rotary Leadership Institute, coming up March 19, unfortunately on our service day.
Next is the 4-Way Speech Contest April 10. We usually have students from Alter and/or Centerville High School participate, Kim told him.
RYLA, the youth leadership program, will again be held at Camp Kern. He said a Dayton RTA bus is loaned to the Dayton Rotary Club to transport participants to the camp, and that the Centerville Rotary Club can also have any students sponsored by our club for the weekend outing, go via RTA's bus.
Greg also mentioned the District Conference, which he said is much more than just people talking about Rotary. Many good discussions come from the meeting and people get to know others to share their ideas with, he said.
May 11 is the district training assembly at Normandy United Methodist Church. It starts at 5:30 p.m., with dinner served, and then runs to about 9 p.m., he said.
The new District Governor, Mike Kelly, will take over July 1, he said.

He has been a member of the Rotary Club of Mason Deerfield since 1998. He served as President in 2010- 2011. In addition to other club leadership roles, he served as Vice Chair of the club Foundation. At the district level, he has served as an Assistant Governor and on verious committees. Mike is a multiple Paul Harris Fellow. One of his Rotary moments involves traveling to Nicaragua as a member of a club humanitarian project team. Mike is passionate about personal and organizational leadership and the importance of education in alleviating poverty.
H is a talented and performance-focused leader with over 25 years of experience in diverse industries and functions. He has a wealth of expertise in the areas of operations, human resources, finance, sales and project management. Currently, Mike serves as a Vice President with Macy’s Inc. He leads the learning and development function for the Credit and Customer Services business unit of Macy’s. He also owns and operates a private consulting and coaching firm, Right Path Enterprises.
He also participates on a few community related boards of directors. He serves on the Board of Trustees and as a member of the Campaign Steering Committee for his alma mater, Mars Hill University, and was recently recognized as Mars Hill’s 2014 Alumnus of the Year. He also serves as a board member for the Music Festival Association of Cincinnati, which sponsors May Festival, one of the oldest and most prestigious choral festivals in the Western Hemisphere. Additionally, he recently concluded a six-year board and executive committee term with the Southwest Ohio Region Workforce Investment Board.
Mike obtained his Bachelors of Arts degree in Business Administration from Mars Hill University and holds a Masters in Business Administration from Webster University, where he was recognized as the Outstanding Graduate Student.
Mike and his wife, Melinda, have been married for 28 years. They are native South Carolinians, who have been residents of Mason, OH since 1997. They have two children. Mike and Melinda enjoy serving their community, listening to music, reading, exercising, investing and traveling to new and exciting places.

In answer to one of our member's inquiries, our speaker Greg Birkemeyer said the Dayton Rotary Club's Guatemala water project did not come together, as the Dayton Club could not get a Rotary Club in that country to participate, and to get a Rotary International Grant to help fund the project, such co-operation is needed.
Greg said the Rotary International theme/logo for the 2016-2017 year will be: Rotary Serving Humanity.
