President Arnie Biondo welcomed everyone to the Centerville Rotary Club and led the reciting of the Pledge of Allegiance. PDG Harvey Smith provided the prayer, including a special prayer for Ron Bowersox who’s son recently passed away.
President Biondo had the following announcements.
- Our guests today include Jamison Noble, Jesse Campbell, and Kristin and Nicholas Hutton.
- An article in the Dayton Daily News today said:
- 46% world population is without sanitation
- 29% is without clean water
- Our club has helped install 25 Life pumps to date to help combat this shortage!
- Quote of the day: "When we seek to discover the best in others, we somehow bring out the best in ourselves.” By William Arthur Ward (An American motivational writer)
- Thanks to our greeter today: Ron Bowersocks and late arriver Don Stewart (who promptly greeted the entire room.)
Paul Harris Fellows
Frank Perez made a Paul Harris Fellow presentation. He noted contributions you make to the Rotary Foundation at any time continue to accumulate. Today we recognized those who reached milestones this year.
The club has a match program whereby each year we use points to match up to $500 of your donation to reach the next level of PHF, up to PHF+8. The next level after +8 is major donor and you can’t use matching points.
Our club has 6 major donors, three PHF+8 and we added 2 more today!
You can contribute whenever - some donate monthly or quarterly. The club does our big push in November, and that’s when matching points are available.
Frank then presented the following Paul Harris Fellow awards:
PHF Adam Manning, Brad Huffman, Uriah Anderson
PHF +1 Mark Febus
PHF +3 Elda Gotos-Gay and Dale Berry
PHF +4 Chuck King, Frank Perez
PHF +5 Mike Wier
PHF +7 Kim Senft-Paras, Ray Merz
PHF +8 Don Overly, Don Stewart
Congratulations to everyone and a BIG thanks for your generosity!
Rotary Golf Outing
Brad Huffman welcomed everyone to Rotary golf season!
He shared that we have our Pancake Breakfast fundraiser in the fall and the Golf Outing in the spring. This year’s event is on May 5th at Yankee Trace. The event has great fellowship while we raise funds to give back, primarily for student scholarships.
How can you help? Secure a sponsorships. Form a foursome. Volunteer that day! Please let Brad or Adam Manning know how you would like to be involved.
Upcoming Service Project
Chuck King announced our next service project is a continuation of our 50th anniversary project. On April 11, 9-11 am, we will mulch, clean up, and do some plantings at Grant Park - Kennard Nature Nook entrance, where the new Rotary Memorial was installed. Sign up to help.
Socks for Socks
Ron Bowersocks announced Dale Berry brought him a sack of socks and asked him to find new homes. So Socks challenged everyone to check your sock drawers for ones you don’t wear or that are too gaudy. Bring to Socks and he’ll find a new home.
New Generations
Susan Schnell announced there were 3 CHS students who attended RYLA (Rotary Youth Leadership Awards) conference last weekend. The CHS Interact club is gaining life again with a new advisor, but unfortunately, there were no takers for the Rotary 4-way Test speech contest this year.
