Centerville Rotary Meeting Highlights
Our Rotary theme for this month is
Basic Education and Literacy

Thanks to guest editor Boyd Preston for this week's bulletin notes!

President Uriah Anderson welcomed everyone to the Centerville Rotary Club and led the reciting of the Pledge of Allegiance. Bishop Brian Hayes provided the prayer.

Today’s inspirational quote was provided by Don Overly: “Try not to become a man (or woman) of success, but a person of value”. Albert Einstein

Thank you to our greeters today, Jeff Senney and Tyler Roark who are shown below greeting members, Lee Hieronymus and Brad Thorp.

Guests this week included:
  • Returning guest, Peter Biondo, Arnie’s son
  • Jack Pan, Vince Carone’s guest and owner of Your Neighbor Physical Therapy
  • Susan Schnell, a previous member and guest of Sofie. Susan is considering rejoining the club.
  • Guests of Pat Beckel- Will Brown and his son Justin from the Formidable Asset Management company of Cincinnati. They will be addressing the 30 under 30 leadership group later today.

President Anderson had a few announcements:
  • He shared pictures from Carol K. who is on vacation in Vermont and found a school Paul Harris attended as a child.
  • Highway clean up volunteer sheets are on the tables. Date is October 3rd from 8 AM – 12 PM.
  • Rotary Women Connect is tonight at 5:30 PM at Felicity in Centerville.
  • Club Board meeting is this Monday the 21st at the Joyce Young Center starting at 5:30 PM.
  • Our next social event will be on September 30th at Meridian. Thank you to Kristy Spivey for setting up this month’s social.

Announcements/ updates from other committees or Board members:
  • Brian Hayes- latest quarterly bills will be issued shortly. He reminded new members that you can pay for pancake tickets in advance each quarter. See Brian for details.
  • Sofie Ameloot- Please plan to attend the next social event on September 30th. Also, still looking for more sponsors for the upcoming Pancake fundraiser. Please consider asking companies you interact with or where you might have contacts.
  • Adam Manning- Volunteers sign-up sheet for Pancake Day is now available. See Adam.

Happy Bucks- Quarterly charitable recipient is local Disaster Relief in Indiana (District 6560 Disaster Relief Fund).
Pat Beckel was the Sergeant at Arms with help from Brian H.
  • Pat B.- Happy Will Brown here, a friend from high school. Also, there are flyers on the tables for the upcoming 9th annual Freedom Whiskey event “Honoring Those Who Served”. Great program to support. It will be held at the Miamisburg Moose Lodge on November 7th starting at 6 PM.

  • Lee H.- Storms like last night’s are not good for the local corn crops which are mature now. Corn is knocked down and makes harvesting more challenging. Conversely, the soybean crops do better with the rain. Farmers could be seeing up to 7 extra bushels of soybeans per acre as a result.
  • Elda G-G.- She is glad to be back and happy to see Susan and Peter again.
  • Arnie B.- happy to see Susan
  • Dan S.- Just happy
  • Brad H- went to Austin, TX for OSU game. Had a good time with family despite the Buckeye loss. Going to NYC tomorrow with daughter for a Harry Styles concert.
  • Dan J.- going to Auburn, AL this weekend for the Florida Gators game vs the Tigers. Hoping for better results than Brad H.
  • Ron H.- for our guests and great to see Susan again.
  • Sofie- having Susan here. Her husband, Greg’s 60th birthday is this weekend and she is looking forward to the family gathering to celebrate. Please keep looking for sponsors for Pancake Day.
  • Susan Schnell- thanks to the club for the warm greeting. Great to be back. Is definitely thinking of joining again now that she has the time.
  • Chuck K. – for our guests
  • Tom A.- was happy today
  • Jeff S.- was able to play golf 3 times this week
  • Tyler R.- his sister and 2 nieces are coming from Florida for a visit
  • Uriah A.- tonight is the fifth annual adult art exhibit at the Joyce Young Center from 6-8 PM. Ron Hollenbeck will have two of his woodworking pieces on display. While our Sargent of Arms failed to mention it, tomorrow is Pat Beckel’s birthday.

Today’s speaker was our own Kristin Hutton who shared her social media focused “Like it, Share it, Grow it” presentation.
  • Simple challenge of our social media activity: “How do we effectively get in front of an audience we want to recruit?”

  • Social media is a team sport- How every Rotarian can help tell our story — without becoming an influencer.
  • Why should we care?
    • Get seen by potential members. E.G. our pancake fundraiser
    • Show impact we have to community as a whole and to potential sponsors
    • Help fill our events – E.G. golf outing and our monthly social events

  • Rotary has an image problem. Perception vs reality does not match:
    • What some people think of us: Meetings, business cards, another commitment, maybe a little…formal?
    • What it actually is: Service, socials, people we actually like

  • The content for social media already exists. We don’t need to manufacture new content; we just need to get better at documenting it.

  • Your entire social media job is just 3 chores: “Like”; “Comment”; “Share”. Should take about 30 seconds. Seriously. This is it.
  • For making comments on a post, no essay is required. Don’t just like it, say something. Some simple suggestions:
    • “Come join us!”
    • “This is always a great event.”
    • “Proud to be part of this club.”
  • Your friends follow you online. Tag us. Tag us. Tag us.
    • At coffee club? TAG ROTARY
    • At Women Connect? TAG ROTARY
    • Volunteering? TAG ROTARY
    • At Pancake Day? DEFINITELY TAG ROTARY
    • Each time, you make our club available to the reader
    • How do you tag? Just enter: @Centerville Rotary
    • Add the following after the above to send to all your followers: @highlight
  • Your actual network is kind of a big deal.
    • 60 club mbrs X 500 connections/ each= 30,000 potential reach
      • Even adjusting for some audience overlap, the point is still valid
  • Facebook and Instagram statistics on our followers show we skew towards women and we are more popular on Facebook.

  • Who are we looking for as our next Rotarian club member?

For posting to our club’s social media activity, members can send photos/ videos to: centervillerotary@gmail.com

Remember, we are not trying to make Rotary famous. We are trying to make Rotary VISIBLE.
More visibility → more connection → more service → more impact  NOW GO LIKE SOMETHING

President Anderson thanked our speaker, led the 4-Way Test and wished all a good week.
