  • Feb 16, 5:30 pm is the next Board meeting at the RecPlex.
  • Sofie Ameloot asked people to let her know if you can attend the upcoming social Feb 10, 5:30-7:00 pm, at the Biondo’s. It is a potluck, supplemented with City BBQ. Also, let her know If you know of any students interested in the Youth Exchange as we still have space. Sheree’s daughter will be doing an exchange to Colombia.
  • Frank Perez requested all Club members get involved in the Golf outing by getting at least one sponsorship and also donate tickets to Flyers or Reds games, or something else for the raffle. The sponsorship flyer is almost ready and will be distributed soon.

Happy Bucks this quarter will be donated to The Food Bank.
Pat Beckel was our Sergeant at Arms with assistance by Adam Manning.

Happy Bucks were generously given for:
  • Pat B thanked Frank P for his leadership with the Coffee Club and Golf Committee. He also shared the City will start construction on additional Uptown parking soon - behind Town Hall to Lumpkin’s Glass, adding 70+ spaces, and new crosswalks across Franklin.
  • Frank S was glad to be here and liked Pat’s pink jacket.
  • Ron H for Frank S and the Paul Harris Fellows awarded today.
  • Elda GG for Sherre and Frank S.
  • Harvey S quipped he does not like Pat's jacket.
  • Mark F said it was good to see everyone.
  • Gina S was happy.
  • Carol K thanked Brad H for representing Rotary at the Pickleball 4 Good fundraiser, noting he also won a raffle basket. There were 70 people in attendance and it was successful for the C-W Foundation. She was also happy to see Sherre here today.
  • Dale B for the warmer weather
  • Jim H for the PHF people.
  • Socks Bowersocks announced he is still married!
  • Lee H gave a Farm report: most feel the cold weather means the insect population should be less this year, but some go into the ground and are not affected. If you had winter wheat in and it is up and has snow on it, that’s good.
  • Dan S was looking forward to picking up his grandkids to watch the start of the Olympics this weekend.
  • Sivaji S for the happy day.
  • Chuck K for Frank S, and noted the Centerville/Kettering Kiwanis Club was having a Chili Cook off tonight from 5:30-8:30 at CHS. Firefighters are the judges, and they have raffles and 50/50.
  • Adam M for today’s PHF and Sherre visiting.
  • Pat B also paid a fine for his back being on Channel 7 news, although they would not air his quote.
Paul Harris Fellow Presentations
Our program today was recognizing the latest Paul Harris Fellows in our club. PDG Frank Scott was here to help Ron Hollenbeck, our Club Foundation Director, present the awards. Frank has been the District Foundation Chair since 2016, except for the year he was District Governor, and has been a great friend of our club. He helps with and provides support for our district and global grants.

Ron shared:
First of all, thanks to our District Foundation Chair Frank Scott for joining us and helping pass out the awards.

This year’s results show Centerville Rotary’s continued support of the Rotary Foundation. Twenty members made pledges to this year’s campaign, which totaled just short of $21,000!

Of those 20 members, 12 achieved their next level Paul Harris award:

Lisa Goris-May 1st PHF
Wyatt Thorp PHF+1
Ron Bowersock PHF+2
Brad Huffman PHF+2
Dan Sortman PHF+2
Uriah Anderson PHF+3
Adam Manning PHF+3
Dale Berry PHF+5
Carol Kennard PHF+5
Arnie Biondo PHF+6
Elda Gotos-Gay PHF+8
Ron Hollenbeck Major Donor Level 3

Frank noted our Club has 3 Level 3 Major Donors and 10 Major Donors in total!

Those in attendance were presented their PHF pin and others will be recognized at a later meeting. Congratulations and THANK YOU for your generous support of the Rotary Foundation.

As we had some extra time, Lee Hieronymus took the opportunity to provide some education on fire extinguishers.

Fire extinguishers are for everyone in the building, not the firefighters. If you are going to use it, it’s important to know how to use it correctly.
  • Make sure everyone is leaving the building and calling the fire department
  • Think to yourself, “I can do this.”
  • Fire extinguishers are usually located on the way out of the building
  • Check to see that the gauge needle is in the blue
  • Grab the top of extinguisher (don’t squeeze the handle), lock your arm and pull the pin, then aim nozzle, squeeze the handle and aim at the bottom of the fire
  • Once the flame goes out, stop. If the fire starts again, hit it again
Classes of fire extinguishers are:
  • A wood/paper/fabric/plastic/rubber
  • B flammable liquids & gas
  • C energized electricity - actively connected to electricity
Code requires that the Fire Department check business fire extinguishers every year.

Lee demonstrated how to “Fluff the Powder”, by turning the can over and hitting the bottom. That can help it last a long time.

Home extinguisher - check the gauge, fluff it, and tell your family what you learned today. Always locate it near an exit, away from the stove.

For pan fires on the stove, scoot the lid on top of the pan so you’re not putting your hand/arm over the fire.

If you’re not able and willing to use the fire extinguisher, leave and call the Fire Department.

Pat Beckel then shared how your can use ChatGPT as a party game - upload any picture, click on picture, add one photo, tell it to “roast me” and it creates a hilarious roast. His example was a photo of Lee demonstrating the fire extinguisher. If you need something fun to do at a party, try it out!

President Manning thanked the Paul Harris Fellows, Frank Scott, and everyone for sharing valuable information, led reciting the 4-Way Test and wished all a great week.

Reminder the Golf Committee meets again at 11 am next Thursday at Yankee Trace.
