Paul Harris Fellow Presentations
Our program today was recognizing the latest Paul Harris Fellows in our club. PDG Frank Scott was here to help Ron Hollenbeck, our Club Foundation Director, present the awards. Frank has been the District Foundation Chair since 2016, except for the year he was District Governor, and has been a great friend of our club. He helps with and provides support for our district and global grants.
Ron shared:
First of all, thanks to our District Foundation Chair Frank Scott for joining us and helping pass out the awards.
This year’s results show Centerville Rotary’s continued support of the Rotary Foundation. Twenty members made pledges to this year’s campaign, which totaled just short of $21,000!

As we had some extra time, Lee Hieronymus took the opportunity to provide some education on fire extinguishers.
Fire extinguishers are for everyone in the building, not the firefighters. If you are going to use it, it’s important to know how to use it correctly.
- Make sure everyone is leaving the building and calling the fire department
- Think to yourself, “I can do this.”
- Fire extinguishers are usually located on the way out of the building
- Check to see that the gauge needle is in the blue
- Grab the top of extinguisher (don’t squeeze the handle), lock your arm and pull the pin, then aim nozzle, squeeze the handle and aim at the bottom of the fire
- Once the flame goes out, stop. If the fire starts again, hit it again
Classes of fire extinguishers are:
- A wood/paper/fabric/plastic/rubber
- B flammable liquids & gas
- C energized electricity - actively connected to electricity
Code requires that the Fire Department check business fire extinguishers every year.
Lee demonstrated how to “Fluff the Powder”, by turning the can over and hitting the bottom. That can help it last a long time.
Home extinguisher - check the gauge, fluff it, and tell your family what you learned today. Always locate it near an exit, away from the stove.
For pan fires on the stove, scoot the lid on top of the pan so you’re not putting your hand/arm over the fire.
If you’re not able and willing to use the fire extinguisher, leave and call the Fire Department.
Pat Beckel then shared how your can use ChatGPT as a party game - upload any picture, click on picture, add one photo, tell it to “roast me” and it creates a hilarious roast. His example was a photo of Lee demonstrating the fire extinguisher. If you need something fun to do at a party, try it out!
