The funeral for Fred Weir will be held at Christ United Methodist Church, 3440 Shroyer Road on July 13 at 3 p.m. Viewing will be from 1 to 3 p.m.  before the funeral. Burial will be at Woodland Cemetery on Wayne Ave. In checking out the church, I was told the elevator at the south end of the church where the sanctuary is, is now under reconstruction, and that those wishing to use an elevator to get up to the sanctuary rather than the 16 or so steps, should enter the church at the north end where there is a working elevator. You will then have to walk to the south end of the church to get to the sanctuary. Hope this is helpful. The church is between E. Stroop Road and Dorothy Lane Road. You can reach Shroyer Road from the south by going north on Far Hills Road and just before you get to Stroop, there will be a light at Shroyer Road. Follow Shroyer as it curves north and you find the church on your right. You will almost go past the church to get to it's entrance, as the parking lot is entered from the north.

 Ron said the District 6670 Rotary Trilogy will be at 7 p.m. Sept. 7 from 5:45 to 9 p.m. at Normandy United Methodist Church. It will be about New Generations and there is no charge. This is the annual fall training event for all club officers and committee chairs, and all are encouraged to attend. Each member needs to register separately as space is limited. Dinner will be served. 

Ron said Mato, John Callander, and Ron himself, along with Lee Hieronymus and his girlfriend, were on the fire engine in the Americana Festival. They soaked a lot of kids and most seemed to welcome the challenge of getting soaked, he said. They started to shoot a guy dressed as Darth Vader and a Storm Trooper came up and said, "Don’t shoot him with water. There are a lot of electronics."  Since it was raining, Ron didn’t see the sense of what he was telling them.

Ron mentioned a Mason-Deerfield Rotary golf outing Aug. 29.  He said they are trying to see which Rotary Club has the best golf team…

Gary Kuntz announced he was retiring from Rotary.

Boyd Preston reminded members to sign up for our Service Day July 23. It is a Saturday and most work is from 9 a.m. to noon. You can choose from six different charity locations. They include: The House of Bread (preparing and helping serve a warm meal, and helping with the cleanup), Hannah’s Treasure Chest (laying down carpet squares, fixing collection bins, cutting out patterns), Project Read (sorting and packing children’s books), Daybreak (helping make and pack dog biscuits), the Historical Society and The Castle (weeding, cleanup, mulching), and The Centerville-Washington Park District (landscaping, preparing barbecue grill, mulching, etc.).

Arnie Biondo served as the sponsor for our two new member inductees, Frank Perez and Rebecca Quinones.

Harvey reminded them that they not only join our club but become a member of the broader organization worldwide, which is in 160 countries and has a million 200 thousand members. Two of the organization's main projects are and have been Polio eradication and clean and safe water.

Frank said he is married to wife Maureen and they have three boys, Patrick, Sean, and Adam. He was a member of the club 15 years ago, but then left as his job with the BBB in Cincinnati took him there for five years. Then he came back here to do marketing with Yellow Book and Internet marketing. He said he plans to retire June 1 and will have a lot more time to devote to service, which he is looking forward to.

 Rebecca said she grew up as a Navy brat in Cincinnati and then married into the Air Force and traveled all over the country, living in Florida, Virginia, D.C., etc. Her daughter Isabel will be attending Bowling Green, and she has another daughter, Sophia, 11 years old. She said she has been in real estate for twelve and a half years and is with ReMax.  Mato stayed with her family and was helpful in recruiting her for Rotary.

HAPPY BUCKS:

Erich Eggers collected Happy Bucks for Warm Coats.  The coats cost $20 each and will be given to needy children through Hannah’s Treasure Chest as winter approaches….once again.

The club gathered $712 from the Happy Bucks given today, many $20 given in Fred Weir’s name for the Warm Coats.

Erich Eggers started off the donations by giving the money for five coats in Fred’s name. He said Fred was the picture of integrity and would make things happen. “He was the most giving person I know,” he said.

Mike Gentile continued the coat giving, along with Don Stewart, who said he celebrated his 30^th anniversary in Destin, Fla. 

Sally Beals said she is happy because all their kids were in town and had a ball in the parade, with her third dollar for the fact that they eventually went home and didn’t leave anything behind.

Greg Horn gave one for Fred being inside today.

The coat giving continued from table to table, with Pat Beckel giving one in his name and one in Fred’s name, and Deb Dulaney also giving happy birthday bucks, and Ron giving a coat for Fred and one from himself…Too  many to keep naming…so much giving by the club members and so much remembering Fred for all he gave...

And Jim Hester said he also was happy for getting his first Eagle.

And Vas Appalaneni gave Happy Bucks for the new members.
