He said his son-in-law Mark, and Christine were on vacation and he really missed them for all the work they do for his remodeling business, so he gave a Happy Buck for them being back. He also gave a buck for Jeff Senney filling in for him next week when he is in Paris….(lucky dog! Or should we say chien? )

 

Ray Merz gave big bucks for his 45th wedding anniversary.

 

Kim Senft-Paras gave a Happy Buck for the outgoing board, and a Happy Buck for the incoming board, and one for Ron Hollenbeck, who couldn’t make the meeting for being in the hospital.

 

Bob Fry gave $5 for his birthday, and $5 for our late former member Hans Berkel, for his birthday, and another $5 for finding out right before his birthday that his wife Monica had a heart attack, which she survived and is doing well.

 

Ed Flohre gave a buck for Brad sending out a message about our meeting at Benham’s Grove earlier in the week, which reminded him that he had forgotten to order any sandwiches for the meeting at that point in time.

 

Erich said he was glad to get a second e-mail today (meeting day) as he had already forgotten about the first one and would have ended up at Yankee Trace.

 

Joyce Young gave a buck for the outgoing board of officers and a buck hoping Ron gets out of the hospital soon.

 

Tom Zobrist said he just got back from the Virgin Islands. (Lucky chien!)

 

Chuck King gave $5 for Saturday being his 20^th wedding anniversary.

 

Patrick Beckel gave money for the outgoing board, which he said, “exceeded our expectations,” and for the incoming board, which he said he had the same reservations for. All tongue in cheek, we assume, or should we? Knowing Patrick.

 

Lee Hieronymus asked if someone had received notice that they have permission to drive the old fire truck in the parade, and it finally came down to Carol Kennard saying Gerry Eastabrooks had called to tell her she had the information and would get it to Brad. Lee said to be sure to bring squirt guns to squirt the crowd, though he is hoping to stay dry with no rain, as  its hard to drive the truck in the rain with no windshield wipers.

 

Carol Kennard gave her Happy Buck for surviving her son's daughters, her granddaughters, under their care overnight Saturday night and into Sunday afternoon. They were so tired they had to take a nap afterwards, she said.

Jeff Senney gave for his wife’s 60^th birthday. Saturday they went kayaking, he said, Sunday they went hiking, Tuesday he played golf with Erich, and Wednesday they did 27 holes, and “today I had to go to the doctor as I have something wrong with this foot,” he said.

 

Bill Niehaus talked about a man where he works who turned 90 years old and had every member of his family hanging out with him on his birthday, making it a great day for everyone around.

 

Ann Blackburn said a couple of trees fell at her house during last night’s big storm.

 

Jim Harris said his granddaughter made the Dayton Philharmonic Youth Strings group.

 

Harvey Smith gave for Daybreak.

 

District Governor Bill Shula gave for our club, saying “it is great to be here. This is a great club.”

 

Earlier he presented the club with a presidential citation, which he got at the International Rotary Convention to give to our club, being one of only eight clubs of 52 Ohio district clubs to get such an award for meeting various criteria and giving more per capita to the Rotary Foundation than most other clubs.

 

Arnie Biondo said with next week being Mato’s last meeting before he goes home, it would be nice if club members bring in any small mementos they might have for him to take home as a reminder of his time here in Centerville/Ohio/USA. Erich noted that Mato has been an awesome exchange student and the club members have really enjoyed his coming to our meetings.

 

Peachy Metzner gave for his 41^st wedding anniversary. Also he gave for his three grandkids going full board after getting no sleep when the power went out during the storm and they got up at the crack of dawn after being up until 3:30 a.m.

 

Doc Hoback gave a buck, noting that the Centerville Police Department has a fast response, and knocked on his door the other night saying they were responding to the alarm in his house. “I have no alarm,” he said.

 

Boyd Preston gave for the incoming and outgoing board and one for the police department because people are picking on the police.

He said Brad engaged the Rotarians in the club, which makes this happen…giving more per capita to the Rotary Foundation for projects to help others, than most other clubs.

 

Bill said this being the 100th year of Rotary, area Rotarians will be invited to hear our new International Rotary President John Germ speak at a Zone Institute for Rotary International hosted by the Cincinnati Rotary Oct 13-16. More information will be forthcoming on this, he said.

 

Brad said this has been a remarkable year, as our club has added eight new members and has two more new folks going to join that have been approved by the board. The community and service projects have been amazing and have given our club some purpose and identity, he said. “We had a great board this year,” he said.

 

Most of the board was at the meeting: Boyd Preston, Ann Blackburn, Peachy Metzner, Carol Kennard, Kim Senft-Paras, Jeff Senney and Harvey Smith.

He presented each of the board members with the new Rotary book, Doing Good in the World, which compiles the projects Rotary has been involved in over the club’s past 100 years. He presented one to Kim Senft-Paras, Boyd Preston, Peachy Metzner, Carol Kennard and Ray Merz. He also had books for the board members not present, Mark Balsan (secretary), Ron Hollenbeck (incoming president) and Gerry Eastabrooks (treasurer). 

 

Harvey Smith presented our outgoing president Brad Thorp with a plaque from the club thanking him for his untiring work this past year serving as our president. He welcomed Brad to the group of past presidents, which Brad said he was happy to join. It was believed that his wife Chris will now be able to present Brad with a to-do list that he may have time to do.

 

The incoming board includes Jeff Senney (Community Service Director), Rand Oliver (Rotary Foundation Director), Kim Senft-Paras (New Generations Director); Carol Kennard (Club Affairs Director); Ram Nunna (International Service Director) Ray Merz has served as director in Nunna's work absence; Peachy Metzner (from Vice President to President-elect); Gerry Eastabrooks (Treasurer); Mark Balsan (Secretary), Ann Blackburn (Membership); Boyd Preston (Vice President).

 

Members were reminded of the social gathering/wine tasting at DLM June 27 from 6 p.m to 8 p.m., in the flower shop/wine area of the store at Washington Square. Members are encouraged to bring their spouses and anyone who might be interested in or thinking about joining the club. When asked who might be coming, Jeff Senney raised both hands, so Brad said he had to remind him that “this will not be a competition.”
