Happy Bucks this quarter will go for Rotary District 5300 Fire Relief (LA area)
Brad Thorp’s close friend is the DG for District 5300. They have established a non-profit to receive donations where they can give right to the greatest need. Brad shared that his friend’s club had 13 members lose their homes, and at least one business is lost. They are still gathering information, but at least 12,0000 structures, 25 lives, and 40,0000 acres have been lost and big winds are still in the forecast. They have been inundated with donated materials, but the major need is cash for cash cards, gas cards and more. The Board approved to forward $1,500 immediately to them. Kelly McDonald’s company matched that donation. Brad offered to match anyone who donated $100, up to $1,000. Please go online to gather more info: https://www.district5300.org/ca-wild-fires/

Kelly received this note from the District 5300 Governor:
Dear Kelly,
On behalf of all of us in district 5300, especially those who’ve been impacted by the wildfires, I want to thank you and the members of Centerville Rotary Club for your very generous donation. As tragic as these fires are, it is heartening to see how Rotarians from across the nation have reached out to lend a hand to those in need. You are doing God‘s work.
Gratefully,
Mike Driebe
Governor, District, 5300

This is also the District who builds the Rotary Rose Bowl parade float.

Our speaker today was our own Uriah Anderson sharing information about the Rotary Foundation.

The Rotary Foundation is the charitable wing of Rotary International with the mission:

The Rotary Foundation helps Rotary members to advance world understanding, goodwill, and peace by improving health, providing quality education, improving the environment, and alleviating poverty.

In 1917, Arch Klumph proposed to build a Rotary Foundation so all of the different clubs could come together for one foundation. It is a public charity and donations are tax deductible.
$108 million in grants awarded in 2023-24
  • Basic Education & Literacy; $6.7 million
  • Community Economic Development; $8.6 million
  • Disease Prevention & Treatment; $40.7 million
  • Maternal and Child Health; $6.2 million
  • Peacebuilding and Conflict Prevention; $2.6 million
  • Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene; $13.1 million
  • Environment; $3.6 million

All of the individual donations to the Annual Fund are held onto for 3 years. Rotary invests those funds and after 3 years, the earnings are used to operate the foundation and the principal is distributed:
  • 50% goes back to districts to distribute as District Grants.
  • 50% goes to the World Fund, to match international grants.

DG Dottie Mead shared that the RI President has challenged District 6670 members to give $67 more than you did last year.

There are various levels of Donor Recognition, which gives you options for how you want to support Rotary causes.

Our club does a Foundation match in October/November, where the Club uses points to match your $500 to get to the next PHF level.

We have one new Benefactor
  • Chuck King

Congratulations to all and thank you for your support of Rotary!

November club match will happen again if the Board approves.

You can check your level of giving at my.rotary.org

Note: If you use a different email in my rotary.org than what is in ClubRunner, your donations won’t match up. Let Uriah know and he can match the donation.

You can update your information here, but make sure it is also updated on ClubRunner. Carol mentioned there is a synchronization ability between ClubRunner and my.rotary.org and she believes it is set up already on our ClubRunner site. The Club Secretary (Brian) can check and confirm this.

Log in to the Rotary website to see your giving history and points.
If interested in increasing your giving, see Uriah.
