Our club has for many years now gone to help at the "House of Bread". Recently a team of Centerville Rotarians volunteered again to help prepare and cook a meal for about 250 people. In the current economic climate the need for feeding those less fortunate than we is enormous. Hence, Mae Berkel wrote a grant request to our district to receive money from our District Simplified Grants to support the "House of Bread".

The "House of Bread" is a non-profit "community kitchen" established in 1983, serving predominantly the inner-city residents of Dayton. As off a few months ago the "House of Bread" has served 1,564,589 meals to those in need. Every day,hot ,nutritious luncheons are served to some 250 people, no questions asked!! Not only are luncheons served during weekdays, a brunch is served on Saturdays as well. In additon the "House of bread" also serves as a bridge to community resources, linking people with agencies able to help provide proven solutions to long-term problems.

Centervill Rotarians have volunteered at the "House of Bread" regularly for several years and were - again - struck by the great need in our community during our recent "volunteering day". The Board decided to set aside another $ 250 (bringing the total contribution for this year to $ 500) to help this wonderful organization. Then our district was asked to match our club funds with another $ 500 from the District Simplified Grant funds. The district grant committee decided to fund Centerville's request, which means that this year we will able to contribute $ 1,000 to the "House of Bread". This money will be sufficient to help feed 250 people / day for a whole week.

Another day of volunteering will be organized soon. Please consider helping out.
